I created textures and prepared a 3D base in blender, then painted in details like volcanoes, plumes and some of the clouds.
The Videos are two examples of use, the first one is a possible transition into the main menu background animation, the second one is a final mockup of the intro done in after effects. (Note that the last image in the second video was done by Eric Pfeiffer)
